How To Do The Vinegar Pregnancy Test?

Vinegar is a versatile household ingredient that can be used for many purposes. It can be used as a cleaning agent, a flavor enhancer, a medicinal aide, and even an indicator of pregnancy. For generations, women have been utilizing vinegar to create homemade pregnancy tests that give just as reliable results as any over-the-counter kit. When you want to know with relative certainty whether or not you could be expecting, you can try using the vinegar pregnancy testing method. This test is very cheap to make and always readily available without having to go to the doctor’s office or pharmacy for a kit.

Using vinegar to test for pregnancy is also very easy. All you have to do is place vinegar in a clean and sterile container and then add your urine to it. After adding your urine, you should then stir the combination to see if it changes color. If it changes color, you could very well be pregnant. However, if it does not change color, you more than likely are not expecting at all. It is important to note that the combination will foam and froth. Many women take this frothing and foaming as an indication of pregnancy. However, it is not the foaming or froth itself that indicates pregnancy, but rather the noticeable color change.

When you wonder what kind of vinegar to use, it is best that you create this test with white vinegar. White vinegar is clear and will be able to indicate with a color change whether or not you are pregnant. If you use apple cider vinegar or red vinegar, you will be unable to see the liquid’s color change. As such, white vinegar is always best for conducting this do-it-yourself pregnancy test. White vinegar can be found easily at any grocery store, and it usually costs less than a dollar to buy. It also does not spoil, so you can use any vinegar that you already have on hand or keep a new container handy if you want to retest for pregnancy in the future.

Homemade Pregnancy Test With Vinegar

Many do-it-yourself pregnancy test enthusiasts say that the vinegar test is more reliable than any other kind of natural testing method. The vinegar reacts to the pregnancy hormone hCG quickly and gives a relatively clear indication of whether or not you are pregnant. In fact, many women who have used this testing method say that their results correspond with those that they get when they take an over-the-counter pregnancy test. The fact that so many women who have used this test also go on to have their pregnancies confirmed with medical tests show that the vinegar pregnancy test method can be trusted to a certain degree.

However, it is important that you understand what could compromise your vinegar test’s results. One of the primary reasons that women fail to get accurate results with this method involves the medications they are taking. If you are taking medications for a thyroid condition or for a hormonal imbalance, the vinegar will be unable to detect the presence of hCG in your urine. If you are taking certain kinds of antibiotics, the test may be unable to give a definitive color change, as some antibiotics alter the color of your urine in the first place. Instead of the color change occurring because you are pregnant, it instead takes place because of the antibiotics you are taking for your medical condition. As such, you may wait to test for pregnancy until you have finished taking your antibiotics. You may use another testing method if you are on medications for thyroid or hormonal conditions.

Another reason that your test results could be compromised centers on the quality of containers that you use to conduct the test. If you use one that has not been properly sterilized and cleaned, you could introduce chemicals and contaminants to the vinegar. These contaminants could adversely interact with your urine and cause the vinegar to fail to detect the hCG. The contaminants could cause the vinegar to change color wrongly. This false color change especially can result if the container you are using had food or beverages in it. The leftover residue from the food or drink could cause the vinegar to change color even if you are not really pregnant.

Does The Vinegar Pregnancy Test Work

Anytime you use a pregnancy test, whether it is over-the-counter or one that you create at home, you always wonder if it is accurate. Any test that you take has room for error; no test is 100 percent reliable in its accuracy. However, the vinegar test has been proven by previous users to be one of the more reliable DIY testing methods. Many women who have taken it have gone on to have their pregnancies confirmed through a medical blood test.

Of course, the accuracy of your test relies significantly on how well you actually conduct it. You must, for example, ensure that the vinegar and urine are properly mixed together. You cannot simply pour the urine into the vinegar and expect it to change color. You have to mix it for several seconds at minimum to see if it changes color. You also may have to wait for a few minutes after stirring to see the noticeable color change. Finally, you cannot interpret foaming or frothing as a sign of pregnancy. The combined liquids predictably will foam and froth when they are first mixed together.

Another important element to remember involves using high-quality urine. If you use urine from later in the day, you may have compromised its quality with caffeine, medications, or even too much water. You should ideally use first morning urine because it is more concentrated and will have higher levels of hCG in it. Before you use the bathroom in the morning as usual, you should first collect a urine sample in a clean and sterile container so that you can add it to the vinegar later.
