In modern, industrialized societies wearing our babies has not been a standard parenting practice.

It’s so exciting to go to public places these days and see so many babies being “worn”. We are starting to realize the amazing benefits of keeping our babies close. The comment we hear daily from moms is, “my baby wants to be held all the time, and I can’t get anything done. I’m so frustrated.” We love offering them the opportunity to try on a carrier just for the experience and we love to watch their responses. It’s clear that the baby is totally happy being so close and the mom is thrilled to be hands free!! Babies that are worn tend to be happier, cry less, and sleep better, and it’s a great remedy for colicky babies. Mom and baby both get their needs met. Mama can take care of other children, cook dinner, grocery shop...the list goes on and on. If dad uses a carrier, he can play a powerful role in soothing and bonding with his baby too. Heidi Donnelly, a mom and Volunteer Babywearing Expert, teaches a monthly Babywearing Class at Mother’s Haven. She talks about the history of babywearing and has many samples of carriers to try on and to learn how to use. If you can’t make the scheduled class, stop by Mother’s Haven anytime and we will be more than happy to have you sample any carriers, or even help to learn how to wear the one you currently have.
